welcome, let’s be friends

This space mixes my personal blog and profiles my professional writing.

Who I am

I'm in my early thirties and I love writing about whatever is happening in my life. I am currently on staff with Power to Change Students full time and write occasionally for The Gospel Coalition Canada.

You can read my professional writing by checking out my Portfolio.

You can read my Statement of Faith.

I am not a marketing agent. I’m not a brand. I’m a woman. I’m a wife. I’m a mother. I’m a sister. I’m a daughter. I’m a church member. I’m in vocational ministry. This is a space for me to write and share. There’s no agenda, it’s simply me writing and seeking to be faithful to what God is doing in my life.

I value privacy (see below), so my Instagram account is private. I do share my writing there, but you can’t find my account from my website here. You can contact me via email if necessary. I mostly receive spam, so if you want to reach out I’d love to connect!

What I write about

My main categories are faith, travel, relationships, and lifestyle. I don’t stick to a certain writing or publishing timeline. But interweave writing as I parent, do ministry, and engage with the world around me.

My most popular blog post is actually about how my phone got hacked from IG. Seriously. It has thousands of reads. It must pop up on Google when people search about phone hacking.

But my personal favourite pieces of writing are related to marital unity, rest, and grief in pregnancy.

This blog started in 2012 when I travelled to India for a semester with my university. It then became a place in I shared poetry, reflections as a student, and my experiences with God and relationships as a grew as a young adult (2013-2016). Then I spent 2017-2021 focusing on writing and content creation in vocational ministry so that shifted the type of content that ended up here. At work, I spent many years writing about how singleness and relationships intersect with faith. I also wrote a lot of content that was geared toward a university/college student perspective. You can explore some of those posts in my Portfolio.

Now I’m married and a mom. My life has evolved and grown and naturally it affects how and what I write.

what i value

Honesty: I want to be honest about life and faith. This includes nuance, tensions, paradox, and often not having an easy answer. Though I often like to write and end pieces tying them with a nice bow. I’m trying to challenge myself to leave things “undone” in my writing. Sometimes (actually often) we just don’t have all the answers.

Privacy: I don’t share my kids names, my husband’s name, details of exactly where I live, or intimate details of my family’s (or extended) lives. I believe it’s possible to write and think about what matters but honour those who live closest with me. Just because I want to write and share online, doesn’t mean they do. This naturally limits what I can write. It makes me pause and consider what is really worth sharing. Which actually helps me sharpen my writing skills and make sure I’m seeking to “write to the glory of God and the good of others”.

Honour: I’m moved by the idea of sharing writing that is true as I see it, but also of value and substance. I want to honour myself, God, and others with my writing. There’s a lot of juicy, dramatic, hard life experiences that I could write about and share and get lots of “interest”. But what true value does gossip offer? What substance is found is dwelling on the rottenness of others? I also want to be careful to not condemn or judge others too harshly in my writing or my reflecting. Those wrestlings I can take to the Lord privately or process in the safety of my home. I want to honour myself and my readers and offer truth without compromise. Again, this causes me to pause and write more slowly.

My family

I was married in October 2019 to B and we live in Southern Ontario, Canada in a city we love and I hope we will never leave.

Our second home is Hong Kong, where B is from, and where his family still lives and works.

We have a dog: a standard poodle, named Robin.

We have two kids: E was born in fall 2021, and A was born summer 2023.
